Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I upload my Track to OpenStreetMap?
In order to be able to upload your track to OpenStreetMap you need to have an OpenStreetMap account. You can create one here. Deposit your credentials in the Track'n Trail settings for OpenStreetMap. You can now use the export arrow on the lower button area of the track view to directly send your track log to OpenStreetMap.
  • How do I change the trackname?
Go to the start view while selecting ‘All Tracks‘ in the upper left corner of the navigation menu. Once you are in the list of recorded tracks, tap on the blue-white arrow right next to the trackname. In the following view: change the name of the track and press ‘Save‘.
  • Do I need network coverage to record a track?
No, Track'n Trail works without network coverage. You can record many tracks and when you are back in an area where network coverage is available, just send your tracks.
  • How can I change the name of a waypoint?
Just tap on the waypoint you want to edit. The keyboard will slide in and you can enter the new name. Afterwards press done and that's it
  • What about the battery life?
With Track'n Trail continiously running the battery will be empty after three and a half hour at the most.
  • What about my tracks when I update the app or when I restore my phone?
Every track is stored in a separate file on the phone within the application itself. That means, when you remove the application, update to a newer version or restore your phone, all your tracks are lost. To avoid this behaviour always make sure to synchronize your iPhone with iTunes first. This way all tracks get backup in iTunes and can be restored when you synchronize your phone the next time
  • I have an iPhone 2G. What good is Track'n Trail for me?
Tracking your footprints on a map naturally relies on a technology that can locate your phone with a certain amount of precision. Unfortunately this is not the case with the iPhone 2G. Apple has two ways of locating your phone, either they make use of cell towers and nearby wifi hotspots or they use GPS, the global positioning system. The latter is not available with the iPhone 2G, so you are stuck with the cell tower method. This method of course is not that precise. It can only locate you within a radius of approx 6000 ft. This is not good enough for short distances, however if you are travelling through the United States it is possible to get a good approximation of your track. To let Track'n Trail also record unprecise location you need to disable the ‘Accuracy Filter‘ in the settings.
  • How can I support the work of the Track'n Trail team?
Of course you have bought Track'n Trail which is already a real good support. But still, if you like what we do, it would be great to leave a rezesision in the AppStore.
